Accounting Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


The Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting and oversees a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.  This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements. 

The focus of this specialized, technically-oriented position is on meeting and exceeding high standards of accuracy and quality based on established systems, technologies and guidelines.  Strength in technical problem solving based on expertise and experience, and a strong commitment to efficiently achieve high quality results is required.  A thoughtful, persevering, self-disciplined approach to achieving accurate, detailed work is essential.

A key aspect of the job includes the ongoing identification of technical problems and the development of sound, carefully thought-out solutions. Problem solving is focused on proven systems and technologies and established organizational relationships.  Solutions should minimize risk to the organization and utilize existing resources.  Because of the expertise developed in this position, it is necessary to regularly initiate and communicate viewpoints on problems and opportunities in a factual, straightforward manner.

The Accounting Manager will report to the President and have contact with the CEO, Operations Director and other internal and external constituents which requires strong interpersonal communication skills both written and verbal.  Supervising two staff accountants, the Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the team to ensure work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner.

This job allows for autonomy and independence, and is primarily self-reliant.  There is a need for someone who will exercise the necessary authority in assuring Team Members meet or exceed the same technical standards of quality and accuracy.  Delegation must be firm, clear and focused on the specific tasks and technical activities of the job. Because of the fast-paced job environment, decisions must be made quickly and decisively within the defined scope of job authority and based on job expertise.  We desire a supportive and collaborative team player who is happy, positive, with a good sense of humor.

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close.
  • Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
  • Oversee daily banking requirements.
  • Ensure the monthly and quarterly Bank Compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Supports budget and forecasting activities.
  • Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Responds to inquiries from the President, CEO, Consulting CFO and Operations Manager regarding financial results, special reporting requests, etc.
  • Supervise the general ledger staff to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.  This includes a new ERP system to be implemented within the next two months.
  • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
  • Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance, etc.
  • Work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.
  • Support Consulting CFO with special projects and workflow process improvements.

  • BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting

Technical Skills and Prior Experience

  • Five to seven years prior supervisory experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area.  
  • Manufacturing and IT Sales and Services preferred.  Cost-accounting experience very desirable.
  • Strong cash management skills given highly transactional nature of the business.
  • High proficiency in QuickBooks accounting system required along with experience with Microsoft Excel, Access and Word.
  • ERP integration experience preferred.

Computer Technician

Specific duties:

  • Test functionality of computers, laptops, servers, and tablets
  • Document equipment information and specifications by job into Microsoft Excel
  • Troubleshoot and replace hardware and components
  • Install operating systems, software and drivers
  • Laptop and PC repair/refurbishment
  • Work schedule is M-F from 7:00am to 3:30pm each day

Job requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Class D driver's license
  • 1 year of related work experience
  • Proficient with Windows XP, Vista, 7, and Microsoft Office
  • Current knowledge of computer hardware and components
  • Ability to troubleshoot and replace computer hardware and components
  • Ability to stand on feet for the entire shift
  • Consistently lift up to 50 lbs
  • Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
  • Punctual, detail oriented, and reliable
  • Courteous and respectful of others
  • Must pass a drug screen, lifting test, and criminal background check

Job preferences:

  • 2+ years of experience in a related position or field
  • A+ Certification
  • Experience with hard drive sanitization and data recovery
  • Experience with Linux and open source software
  • Experience in e-commerce related activities i.e. product listing and market research
